Alashkert FC 0 Celtic 3

The first of eight (hopefully) Champions League qualifying matches in eight weeks for Celtic, in the heat of Armenia, resulted in a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Brendan Rodgers boldly paired Dembele and Edouard up front with a defensive back three, and while this meant Celtic created chances it also meant that the home side also threatened at times. Thankfully our front players were a lot sharper than Alashkert’s.

It took until first half stoppage time for the breakthrough, Edouard expertly finishing a Forrest mishit. Hendry allowed Alashkert a chance as he dallied on a through ball but they couldn’t take advantage. Gordon was far from a spectator as he had to make a few saves, but further goals from Forrest - after some pinball in the box - and McGregor - with a typical finish into the corner after a great Ajer run - eased any worries and will allow for some players to be rested next week. Which will be useful as some hefty challenges left Hendry hobbling by the end and Ntcham with an ice pack on his thigh.

Job done, well done.
